I hope they aren't changing the cover art to mention the movie...

Wow, "The Way to Cook" on Amazon says "ships in 2 to 5 months"--are they going to have to do another publication run?

I ordered one for my sister's goddaughter last week, and it shipped yesterday. Yes, the book jacket has the movie mentioned on it, but otherwise it looks the same.

The cover is the same. The mention about the movie appears to be a "belly band" you can get a better look on Amazon.com

I wonder how many buyers will actually make the recipes......on the Charlie Rose interview, Ms. Ephron and Ms. Streep were both of the opinion that when an average home cook says s/he has a favorite cookbook, it usually means they make the same 2 or 3 dishes over and over. I'm the same way, largely because I read recipes for inspiration and then use what I've got on hand for my own interpretation of a dish that appeals to me. It's rare for me to put the ingredients on my shopping list and then follow the directions precisely.

I doubt that more than a few people, if any, will attempt to cook their way through the book. Ms, Powell is one of a select group. I believe Martha Stewart did it. I remember her speaking about doing this on TV, when making carbonnade of beef based on Julia's recipe, but am not sure Martha got all the way through. Her approach was to go in order, from beginning to end. Very methodical and organized, but a slog - in that respect Ms. Powell's decision to skip around seems preferable.

I'll guess about 10 percent of the new buyers will make more than two or three recipes, and virtually no one will cook the whole book. Because they don't need to, and don't have the time and money.

Back in the late 60's / early 70's, I considered that I had "cooked the book," but if I counted, I'm sure I didn't do even half of them. Still, I enjoyed myself, learned a lot, and pleased quite a number of family and friends! ;)
