My husband and I are weighing all-inclusive vs. regular resorts. We loove great food and service. We are open to suggestions, but so far have sort of narrowed our list to Cap Juluca (Anguilla), Paradisus Palma Real and Paradisus Punta Cana (Dominican Republic), Ritz Carlton St. Thomas, and Ritz Carlton San Juan.

We've also considered Ritz Carlton South Beach, The Tides South Beach, and Fontainebleau Miami.

I've looked at trip advisor and other review sites, but I know you Chowhound foodies will come through with more useful advice. Thanks in advance!

I can speak to Cap Jaluca. They have some killer deals so act soon. The dining on island is incredible. I would not do all inclusive at Cap but have one dinner at Pimms. The reviews are mixed. Better is Picante nearby with super Margaritas and lovely Mexican food. The fresh fish there is great. Also Trattorai Tremonte nearby has rave reviews. Straw Hat is minutes away. Malliouhana has one if not the best wine cellars in the Caribbean and is a Michele Rostang restaurant. B and D up from Mali has a wonderful cheap eats BBQ. Lucy's nearby is great. Luna Rosa not far from Cap is AMAZING..Silvestro is a true professional. Oh near you is Smokeys. Go Sunday around 6 for dinner and music. Try the Roti or lobster wrap. Sat. aft is also great at Smokeys.

Cap Jaluca is an amazing property and a crazy good beach..see photos on www.anguillabliss.com

I cannot understand how you can try and compare Miami Beach resorts with the Caribbean-they share nothing in common. Do you want to go to an island and experience a different culture and mood or do you want a big US city with sand?

IMHO, forget both Ritz properties. St. Thomas and Puerto Rico offer all of the worst of the Caribbean at once. Crowded, touristy, dirty, and full of cruise ships.

Anguilla is a very special island and has some incredible chow worthy options. Could not be more different from Miami Beach or St. Thomas.

For the best of food, service, island culture, and exclusivity, I would strongly recommend St. Barth's. There are several great choices of resorts, just depends on your budget. On the highest end you cannot go wrong at either Le Toiney or Hotel Ile de France.
