Suggestions for my wife's 30th birthday in the South Bay?

I'm looking for a place to celebrate my wife's 30th birthday in or around Redondo Beach. Everyone will be gathering at my house there for cocktails first, so I would like to stay close to home. There will be 10-15 people, and each will be paying for themself. Any suggestions that will keep everyone under the $30-$35 range (excluding tax, tip, drinks) that will be fun, lively, and accommodating of big groups?

  1. I'm thinking about Samba Brazilian Steakhouse, down by the pier...

    1. How about Ortega120? I've only been there once, but it meets all your criteria better than any other place that comes to's in Redondo, the food was good, the atmosphere was fun and festive, it is in your price range, and they accommodate groups. The only caveat is that when I was there there was a HUGE delay in our getting food, probably due to the fact that there happened to be a large group there (who seemed to get their food promptly). But they were extremely apologetic about the delay, and comped our food as well as a round of drinks (and we hadn't even complained--they noticed that we hadn't gotten our food yet, were appalled, and took the initiative to remedy the situation). Based on our overall experience there, I would definitely return and recommend it to others, despite the problem we encountered.

      1. The Depot in downtown Torrance has some of the best food in the South Bay area. Sure, it's Torrance, but still once you close the door, you can't see Torrance anymore.
        Terrific service as well.

        1. How about Chef Melba's in Hermosa Beach? AWESOME food. Ambiance quaint and can see chef and owner cooking away in kitchen/at grill. Could be a bit more than price range if you have to tackle alcohol issue. For a fun, low-key place, Riviera Grill is great in Redondo as well.

          1. Great suggestions!!! Thanks so much. I will check out their websites, and possibly go down there in person too. As much as Samba Brazilian would suit my needs, they don't have the best reviews of their food/service. The ocean view may be nice, but we will be there around 9 pm after it gets dark. Once again, thank you all...
