Michael Mina and the St Francis Hotel

Raisel Aug 11, 2009 06:31 PM

On the way back to Ny from Napa, we stayed one night in San Franciso at the St. Francis to have dinner at Michael Mina.
We thought the Advertised 3 course menu at 55.00 promoted by the hotel was a real good deal.
Do not be fooled by this come on. The tuna sushi appetizer was wonderful. I ordered the Halibut and my husband had the filet. The portions were a disgrace. They could not have been more thab 2 ounces each. it was like a portion taken from the regular tasting menu.
We are not big portion people, however, this was an insult.
It would be better not to offer this and call it a 3 course dinner. We were not told about the portion size.

We called the hotel and have not received a call back......................
Just a heads up, if it is too good to be true, it is too good to be true.

Other than the portion size, you liked the food?

What we had was wonderful.......................Just an embarrasing portion

Did you complain about the portions? Given the many different menus there, it seems possible that the kitchen accidentally gave you tasting-menu portions.

This was a special 3 course menu for people who stayed at the St. Francis. It was not listed as a tasting portion.
To their credit, when we arrived back in NY, the manager of Michael Mina called to apologize and he put a credit to our credit card for the entire amount excluding our wine cost.

So maybe you didn't get as much food as you were supposed to.

Wasn't that the same complaint at Michael Mina's new restaurant RN74 in SF? I recall reading that portions were too small when the restaurant opened and they adjusted the portions and prices in response. Perhaps there's a theme with MM. The special 3 course menu was offered in the lounge too.
