Del's lemonade in Venice

http://www.delsla.com/index.php

Any former Rhode Islanders besides me excited about this? Anyone?

For the uninitiated, Del's frozen lemonade = Proust's madeleine for almost any kid who spent summers in RI.

Went to Del's today really looking forward to a great frozen lemonade. I was really disappointed. I had lemonade very little lemon flavor and it had an aftertaste as it was made from a mix and not real lemons.
Hubby had a cherry one, was it just cherry or was it supposed to be cherry lemonade? It tasted like frozen water with a hint of cherry.

    Not going back.

None of their flavors are going to punch you in the nose and yell their name - I don't think they're meant to.

The lemon is more like the lemonade flavor common in the UK and Japan - low acid and more like the flavor from the zest.

The watermelon is very weak - that is my least favorite. I'll grant you that this one needs work.

The cherry is light but the flavor is there.

The mango-peach has the most pronounced flavor - this is my favorite because both of these fruits are among my favorites.

I personally find the level of sweetness to be perfect and the flavors (except the watermelon) to be nice as well. These are hot-weather healers - I'm looking for something light, not too sweet, and really cold. And honestly, after having a large, the heat and humidity just didn't bother me for a good half-hour.

Have you had it in RI as a comparison? The flavor isn't really lemony, there are bits of lemon peel in it, and its more slushy and wet like melting snow/slush after a snowstorm. Maybe you have to have had it as a kid to love it.

Do they serve anything besides lemonade?

I nearly dropped dead when I heard one opened out here. My friend went last week, and I've been biting my nails to go... finally going tomorrow!

Now if I could just get my hands on some NY Systems...

I went tonight and initiated my son. He loved it. I got an ice cream headache immediately, but it was worth it.

Had a jumbo Del's today... heaven. I got out of the car and must've looked like one of the chimps in the opening of 2001 because the girl laughed and said, "You must be from Rhode Island". Reminded me of badgering my parents to take me to the Del's in Lincoln at least 4 times a week every summer. They said they'll even have the pretzels soon. Now someone open an Aunt Carries out here!

Like the frozen lemonade you get at the ball park?

                        What's a slush puppy - a hush puppy or a slushie?!

Okay, then, guess it's s hybrid of a slushee and a sno cone.

Got Del's frozen lemonade mix as a gift from a friend traveling in RI. Delish esp on hot summer days.

Wow this means I don't have to be gorged @ silverlake Wine for the Packets of Del's Mix. I wonder if they will have Autocrat Coffee Syrup too.

That would be nice. And if I could also get a half dozen clamcakes in a greasy brown paper bag, I'd be completely transported.

Yea, good luck with that. Try Famousfoods.com, I just ordered a bunch of canned quahogs, NE split buns and some Del's of course. Forget driving around LA trying to find something close.

PS Clamcakes at my house in about 2 weeks!!
