Tips for Dining, Eating and Food Shopping in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba (inc. Calgary)

Calgary 30th bday restaurant planning.... suggestions needed pls!

I am in search of a restaurant or lounge where I can make reservations for my husband's 30th bday bash.

We are looking for a private room that could accomodate 20 to 40 ppl with a nice environment and good food/drinks.

We hope to find a place that would give us some options so that ppl can order what they like without being required to pay in order to be there (and without us having to pay either). We will be having lots of drinks, appetizers & probably entrees, but don't want ppl to feel they must stick to a fixed menu.
I've looked at the Living Room, Bonterra & Divino's so far but it seems we would have to book the room with a fixed price per person, which I'd like very much to avoid.

Maybe my expectations are a little unrealistic..?
Any suggestions, dear fellow Calgarians??

Thanks so much!

    1. Belgo can probably accommodate 30 ppl. Don't know how that works for ordering etc.. though. A place on 13th ave & 1st street SW (St. James Corner Pub) has an upstairs private area too.

I heard that if you phone Belgo and tell them that you are planning a big birthday dinner, the manager gets super excited about it (last time my frd had a group of 10-15). He/she will try to accommodate you with your request, and will offer suggestions for your party.

          • I've been to functions at the Chicago Chophouse in their private room downstairs with aobut 40 people. Appetizers were ordered beforehand and we all ordered off of their regular menu for mains. I'm not sure what the financials were to book the room though as it was a corporate event.

              1. Thanks to both of your for your help!!
I've booked the Belgo private dining room for the party & it'll be perfect.
Thanks again-- I really appreciate your suggestions.
