Today, we had pork ribs marinated in a molasses brine and served with a delicious root beer barbecue sauce. We first enjoyed these ribs on a trip to Jackson Hole, WY, where we stayed at the lovely Wort Hotel. The barbecue sauce appears here in its entirety:

But you can make it quick 'n dirty by spicing up just a plain ol' bottle of barbecue sauce (Kraft, e.g.) as follows (we usually are cooking for 2 or 3, so you can easily double this):
1 cup BBQ sauce
1 cup root beer
1 cup dark molasses
2 tablespoons cinnamon
2 tablespoons light brown sugar

Mix all ingredients together, SLOWLY ADDING root beer last. Simmer and enjoy!

MOLASSES BRINE paraphrased from "Mastering the Grill" by Andrew Schloss and David Joachim

1 3/4 cups water
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons Kosher salt (you can definitely cut the salt WAY down; next time we will)
2 tablespoons unsulfured molasses
1 tablespoon light brown sugar
1 tablespoon ketchup

The apple cider vinegar definitely adds a different flavor to the ribs. We have lots of leftovers, so we'll be enjoying these for at least a couple of days to come.
