benriner mandolin - regular or jumbo size?

Gooseberry Aug 9, 2009 06:44 AM

Hi guys

I'm putting one on my wedding registry, but I don't know which one. I haven't owned a mandolin before, and am planning to use it to prep small amounts of veg (just two of us at home). Does anyone have experience of the different sizes, and recommend one over the other?

Many thanks.

I have the small one and on just a few occasions I wished it was little bigger. But if you are putting it in your registry I'd opt for the larger size. There is nothing you can do on the small one that you can't do on the small one.

I have both. Started with the standard size. Yes it has some limitations when shredding cabbage or slicing large root vegetables like large rutabaga. I got the large one and use it on occasion but use the standard one more. One thing that I don't like about the large one is that it has two set screws to set the thickness of the cut. One left and right. Not easy to make sure it's level. You just have to eye it. For most things I use a mandoline for the standard one is fine.
