Martel Bistro & Bar in Fairfield

My wife and I went to Martel Bistro & Bar in Fairfield CT for dinner. At first glance, the dining area is extremely small with the tables right next to each other. You can basically hear the conversation of the patrons sitting next to you. Definitely not a restaurant to bring children. Upon arrival we were given a table promptly. We ordered the oysters and tuna baget for appetizers. The oysters were good, however the tuna baget was really salty. For dinner we had the braised short ribs and sear scallops with farro. The short ribs were good. The meat was falling of the bone and vegetables were tender. The scallops were cooked perfectly, however that dish lacked flavor. Overall, we rate this restaurant at best average and will not be going back.

Thanks for the review. We live in Fairfield and have been wanting to try this. We stopped by a month ago for a drink in the bar area on a Wed night and the place was packed. We scanned the menu and it looked interesting, so its good to hear your disappointments.

Have you tried Cafe Lola (bistro fare) at all? Very small place next to the old theater in downtown Fairfield. We went once for lunch and once for dinner and were pleasantly surprised both times with the simplicity and the flavors. I think it is worth a visit.

Thanks for the recommendation about Cafe Lola. We will give that a try next time. We did try Barcelona in Fairfield and that was fabulous
