Friends are coming to visit who boast that there is no way that providence pizza can hold a candle to new haven pizza. I would appreciate any input on where to get the best pizza in the providence area.

I always liked Fellini on Wickenden St (and I grew up eating Sally's & Pepe's in New Haven).

Try Nice Slice on Thayer Ave! The pizzas are HUGE Brooklyn style hand tossed with a wide assortment of toppings. Parking is rough, and it is best to get the pizza as take out, because the shop is small, but the pizza is amazing. We drive 40 miles for their pizza - in my opinion, the BEST Brooklyn style pizza north of Flatbush!
