Kogi at Damon & Pythias?

Das Ubergeek Aug 7, 2009 08:35 PM

I call bulls$#%. It's on the menu, The logo looks SORT of the same but it's two different red logos in two separate places, neither of which match. They advertise short ribs and burritos. I meant to get a picture but by the time I left I was so pissed off I forgot.

I emailed the Kogi people. I've never personally had a Kogi taco, because they've had drama in OC and I never have an hour and a half when I can go stand on line. But people here that I trust say they're tasty, and it pisses me off when places that suck rip off places that don't.

Unless Kogi are actually in league with these people, in which case uff da.

I think part of the problem here is that the Kogi folks chose to use a rather generic name to brand their product. Sort of like if a guy called his BBQ restaurant "BBQ", he wouldn't be able to tell all the other restaurants that serve smoked-and-sauced meat to stop calling it "BBQ".

If the logo is similar enough to cause confusion, that's another matter.

There's a difference between picking a name that is an abbreviation of the name of the dish and trying to rip off a successful venture. If it had been printed I'd have been more charitable but they obviously were trying to use the Kogi trucks' logo. And that's just underhanded.

The Calbi truck is parked in Westwood a lot. The logo looks similar, but their food is worlds apart (in a bad way). Was this what you saw, OR did the actual Damon & Pythias restaurant offer this food?

Wow, really?! I've had both (Calbi and Kogi BBQ) a few times, and I find that Kogi is only slightly better, which Calbi trumps by never having to wait more than 5 minutes or so.

I guess I'm in the minority of 'Hounds who'd rather wait a lot longer for great food than a lot shorter wait for good-but-not-great food.

No, this was on the menu at D&P. I get the feeling that catering trucks would not be welcome in Calabasas.

I heard back from Alice ("Aliiiiiiiiice") at Kogi. No connection whatsoever. I hope they give D&P hell.
