Sojourn Restaurant Review

Hi all! I just returned to Philadelphia after a few days on business in NYC. After I had the most amazing meal at Sojourn (79th & 2nd Ave) I had to share about my experience. 6 of us went on a Tuesday night for a business dinner and I was completely wowed by the food and the service. I have to say, I go out often for work- including some amazing restaurants in Philly, but was so impressed that I felt compelled to review.

We started at the bar where Stanton, the owner, poured us wine, letting us try tastes before having to commit to any of them. We headed in back for dinner and decided not to do their tasting menu (which I was told was great) because some of us were more adventurous than others. We were entertaining clients and opted to order 2 things per person, with a few extras. Everything I had was nothing short of fabulous and they kept them coming out at a really nice pace, which allowed us to enjoy everything without feeling overwhelmed.

I kept our receipt so I could post it all- here goes! Comments were on my favorites, but I didn't have anything that I didn't like:

5 Cheese plate- my faves were brie, truffle, and stilton
Burrata- Many of the girls hadn't tried it and fell in love just like I did my first time
Wild Arugula Salad
Duck Confit Spring Rolls- Awesome! Even the picky eaters loved them!
Scallion Fried Rice
Grilled Asparagus
Fries with Ginger Ketchup- not greasy, simple, perfect fries
Pan Seared Scallops with Avacado, Mango, etc- I'm not usually a scallop lover but they were sweet and perfectly cooked and the sauce was like a heavenly guacamole- it was the most amazing complement.
Mussels
Grilled Octopus
Oven Roasted Prawns- I didn't try but liked that they happily accepted one diners request to serve it plain, steamed, no sauce, etc with ease. Owner told me it was his favorite, though.
Ravioli
Gnocci with Truffles & Parmesan..... this was one of the best things I have eaten all year. simple and perfect. I can't even explain how amazing this dish was for me.
Kobe Beef Sliders- heaven on little buns. We were also able to add an extra one for an additional $6
Pulled Pork Sliders- I begrudgingly let the picky eaters enjoy these, but heard they were delicious
*also a regular came in with a fresh sea bass that he had caught and they were cooking it up for him. He knew one of the girls I was with and they brought a taste over. They had cooked it with asparagus and mushrooms- it was delicious.

So there it is! It's a newer restaurant with not a lot of reviews just yet and I just wanted to sing the praises.

I like Sojourn a lot. Glad to have it on the UES. But I can't say I would recommend that people travel to the UES just to go there.

Same here; it's the kind of place that makes you write shillishly. I actually would travel for it, if I didn't live here, but for me it's the perfect weekend-night neighborhood place for very good food in a congenial setting.

I also live in the neighborhood and love this place. The food is consistently delicious and thoughtful. The only dish I wouldn't recommend is the arribata (kind of heavy and unrefined). The scallops and duck are amazing. The sides that come with the proteins, like the truffle whipped potatoes with the scallops are so good they almost outshine the protein! One downside is this place is crazy loud on weekends...like dance party in a club loud. Noise level is much more manageable on a weekday and you wont have to wait as long for a table of course.

A customer brought in his own fish and they cooked it for him? That's very cool.
