Mrs. Culpepper's Crab Cafe, Morehead City NC

Hoi Thai on the saned soide!

They serve both Thai food and Southern style fried seafood. One of the owners is a fisherman and some of the seafood is local, depending on availability. There's a small buffet, or you can order a la carte. You can also add a seafood entree to a buffet for a couple of bucks. I got the buffet against my better judgment just so I could try out more than a couple of things, but it was good.

I had ginger pork, ginger beef, and a shrimp curry(all spicy). These were all delicious and were my favorite Thai dishes. The pork was the best of these and was recommended by the owner. There were several non-spicy Thai meat/veg stir fries which I thought were okay, but not nearly as good as the spicy stuff. Sweet potatoes in coconut milk was pretty good; different from what I'm used to. Stir fried hard crabs were excellent. Crabcakes were good, but limited to one per buffet. I also had a piece of fried flounder which was right out of the fryer and excellent, very fresh. In general though, besides the stir fried crabs, the buffet was a bit short on the fried seafood end, and most people seemed to be ordering an a la carte seafood entree to go with the buffet. I'll be ordering off the menu next time. The buffet was good, but there are Thai dishes on the menu that aren't on the buffet, and the fried seafood was as good as I've had in the area, so I'd like to have some more of that. If it's crab you're after though, the buffet may be the way to go, as you get one pretty substantial crab cake and unlimited stir fried crabs.
