Locanda Verde or Lupa for Restaurant Week-help!

My friend is visiting from DC, and I'd like to take her out for a nice Italian lunch. I've been wanting to try Lupa for awhile now, and heard mixed reviews about LV. Any suggestions?

  1. I haven't been to Lupa, but did go to LV for lunch (and had the restaurant week menu, which is pretty much exactly the same as their regular menu) and it was fantastic!

    1. LV would be my choice as well. Love the gnocchi, lamb sliders and most of the seafood dishes.

      1. We had a nice lunch at Locanda Verde and if the weather is good you can sit outside. I've only been to Lupa for dinner and would go more often if it wasn't so challenging to get a reservation.

          I made a reservation for Lupa no problem for the third week of August.

            Thanks, itryalot. I prefer places I don't have to wait weeks to get into. IMHO Lupa is not worth waiting weeks for. If I go back again I'll take a Casa Mono approach - go early and sit at the bar.

              I am not a local and we are only there for three days, so we are reserving places where we want to go for sure.

        2. I have been to both a number of times, and would recommend them equally, though I have not been for lunch or for RW.

            Went for RW lunch at Lupa today and had the summer squash salad, which was slightly too sour (too much lemon.) Also had the fluke, which had two nice portions of fluke and a great summer salad with picked white beans and fresh corn. Nice balance. For dessert I had the tartufo, which reminded me of a cherry cordial. It was hazelnut gelato covered in chocolate with a rum cherry on top of a chocolate-hazelnut sauce.

            It was quite filling and the service was impeccable. I would come back again.

          2. thanks all, I ended up going to LV and it was delicious. The diver scallops were so good. I'll have to try Lupa next!
