Scharfen Berger Chocolate

Trader Joe's has stopped carrying Sharfen Berger Chocolate Are there any DC/NoVA retails stores (other than the rather expensive Whole Foods) that sell it?

  1. Besides Whole Foods I'm pretty sure I've seen it at Dean and Deluca. I know I've seen it other places as well but I haven't had a full cup of coffee yet some I'm blanking.

Yes I'm fantasizing that some place with decent prices (i.e not Whole Foods or D&D) carries it....

Balducci's carries it which will make Whole Foods look like Costco.

Scharffen Berger was bought out by Hershey Company in 2005. and its founder, Robert Steinberg died late last year. Recently Hershely closed the factory in Berkeley and moved the remaining production to its plant in Illinois. Essentially, Scharffen Berger chocolate no longer exists.

Sad but true. If you want to be immersed in SB, go to the shop at the end of the chocolate tour at Hersey, PA. All sorts made are for sale there.

Sad to hear the factory closed.

I've found the best prices on Scharffen Berger at MOM's.

      2. I saw some at the Sur La Table in Friendship Heights this afternoon. I did not inspect it closely, so can't say how extensive the selection is.

        1. I've seen it at Wegmans--specifically, the Fairfax one (at Route 29 and Monument Drive).

Thanks silversmiles - I love Wegmans this is a good excuse to make the trip out there from DC....

          2. World Market (aka Cost Plus for those of you from the West Coast) carries it at their Dulles Town Center store and probably at their other area stores.

I saw it in Burke on Old Keene Mill.
