mexican food near downtown LA?

I am in LA until Sunday and am staying downtown (near Little Tokyo). Am wondering if anyone can recommend a good place for mexican food that is not too far away - either walking distance or not too far on public transit. Thanks!

  1. Grand Central Market within walking distance of Little Tokyo. Lot's of different foods but mostly Mexican places.

Ana Maria's for some great carnitas.

    1. Senor Fish in Little Tokyo
First Street at Alameda in Little Tokyo

      Senor Fish
      422 E 1st St, Los Angeles, CA 90012

      1. Yxta is near Little Tokyo and has good food and real drinks, unlike the smaller places. Perhaps not the best neighborhood for walking at night, though.

        Yxta Cocina Mexicana
601 S Central Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90021

        1. La Serenata De Garibaldi is a very unique and special Mexican restaurant a short cab ride from Little Tokyo. They specialize in seafood. Check their website

          1. La Luz Del Dia on nearby Alvera St. for their carnitas.

I second La Luz Del Dia. It's at the south end of Olvera Street, which is a one-block long pedestrian walkway lined with Mexican themed merchants and eateries.

            2. Casa is a short cab drive away.

350 South Grand Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90071

              1. My favorite Mexican food restaurant in downtown is called La Taquiza on Figueroa and 30th all you have to do is take the F or G bus (sorry its been a while since I used the transit system down there) but if not its a 7 dollar cab ride from little tokyo. La Taquiza is right by USC and its a student favorite but I know that during lunch time people who work downtown will hope on the bus to grab some great tacos. My favorite thing to order there is the CA chicken salad, its like salad nachos with rice, beans, and tortilla chips underneath a bed of lettuce, tomatoes and avocados. Make sure to try the avocado salsa at the salsa bar and also their handmade corn tortillas are to die for!! Also, the fruit juices are super good, my fave is the cantelope or good ole horchata.

I love La Taquiza too, and it's probably my favorite LA burrito, but my one complaint is that their jalapenos are not spicy. It's like they soak the spice out of them...

                2. You can get to the Breed St. Mexican street food fair on the Rapid 720, it's on Breed and Cesar Chavez..Friday and Saturday around 7PM.If you get there a little early and hit it hard you'll have time to catch the last bus well fed. This is one of the greatest Mexican food experiences in LA, if not the best.
