I'm looking for a restaurant/lounge that is similar in ambiance and food as Social Stanton but not that particular restaurant (long story). I love that place but need to find a place for a date either on the UWS, UES, Union Square, East Village or West Village. Thanks for any suggestions/help!

Psst, it's Stanton Social. But maybe do a search for small plates or tapas? I'm a fan of Mercat, which is less diverse in its offerings than Stanton Social, but also (imo) better, foodwise. It's also deafeningly loud, so it's like Stanton Social in that respect, also.

Bar Stuzzichini got a lot of love here for a while, and I've not been, but it might be worth considering.

My friends and I thought Alta was a much better take on small plates than Stanton Social the first time we visited. It's an energetic restaurant with interesting dishes, but not quite as exhaustingly loud. I find our check usually more reasonable as well.

Stanton Social was designed and executed by the AvroKO group, so if you're looking for very similar ambiance I'd recommend some of their other projects: Double Crown, Public or Quality Meats. Each one has it's own unique menu:
Double Crown does excellent Indian/european cuisine in the east village.
Quality Meats is a dual-level steakhouse in Mid-town
Public features "world cuisine" (from their website) in NoLita.

All in all, I personally think that Public would be the best 'date' place, there's a nice little lounge attached next door. And of the three I'd say that Double-Crown has the best food, with a great bar, and access through the back wall to another semi/hidden lounge.
