L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon in Roppongi Hills
Hi.
I will be headed to Tokyo in a few weeks and although I know there are several great places to eat, I will be making a stopover here because one of my silly, but reachable, goals is to eat at every L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon in the world. So far, I've done, NY, Las Vegas and Paris.
I'm not too concerned about the menu, but I was wondering if this place is very popular, if reervations are required (esp. for a solo diner) and if the dress code is something I should be concerned about. I didn't find a lot of info in my research that was recent.
If there are any members here that could help it would be greatly appreciated!
thx!
According to the 2009 Micheline Tokyo guide, reservations are required. Apparently, it's a counter set-up - "a long counter with seating for 44" - so it doesn't appear to be all that formal.

When I went, there were a number of "casually" dressed people, just as there were many well-dressed people. The casually dressed people seated around me were, from what I could tell, first-timers with that kind of dining, and I thought they looked like country-bumpkins. That being said, you could get away with a nice pair of jeans, button-down shirt, and sports jacket if you're a man, or something comparable if you're a woman.
I went as a solo diner and I made reservations. They're pretty easy to get, from what I could tell (I think I got mine a week or less before I went). If you go really early (when they open), you might be able to sneak in, but as the night progressed they get progressively busier and by the time I left (maybe 8 or 9), the counter was pretty full. I suppose that depends on what day you're dining.
ETA: They do have some tables, but those are reserved for larger parties (i.e. parties of 3 or more from what I could tell).

Thanks for the info!
I'm a counter guy myself so it's no problem.
I appreciate the feedback about the reservations!
