Old Stone Inn, KY
Hello South Board! Mr CF and I were in Louisville to visit some friends Saturday and I thought I'd drop a little note.
Being my first time to this particular side of Louisville, but not Mr CF's - he's saying "That's Vallhalla, Ryder Cup, bus drop off, yadda yadda", I'm looking out the window and spotting a Graeter's Ice Cream store and saying "Coconut chocolate chip ice cream!". Golf, schmolf - I'm all about the food. So I was pretty happy about Old Stone Inn Restaurant.
What a pretty place and lovely grounds. We sat outside on the patio, caught up with our friends and watched the band set up. We started with the Tempura fried Brie with roasted garlic, strawberries, candied walnuts and toasts. Very nice.
I had the special - pan seared snapper with an orange vanilla vinegrette served over a tomato and spinach risotto. I kinda thought, 'humm, orange vanilla over fish - how will that be?', and it was great. Not too sweet or sour but just right. I was very pleased! Mr CF ordered the Southern Fried Chicken. It was crispy and moist and the mashed potatoes were, according to Mr CF, as good as mine. ;-)
I'd go back!
Thank you for the report; we do go that way fairly often.
(off board, but still Chow-ish) search the recipe on Chow for Chocolate/cocoanut ice cream for a home freezer. I made it last week and we simply love it. It may even be better than Tres Scalini from my favorite ice cream shop years ago in Houston. The characterisation of "Mounds Bar Ice Cream is pretty close to perfect.)
