This thread got moved from California, where Reno is discussed, to Southwest. It should be in California. For what it's worth this time of year is Hot August Nights, the biggest tourism event in Reno, and Chowhound might be getting a lot of people looking for eating advice in Reno.

Currently there's a post on the California board that Reno should be discussed on the Southwest board, presumably a new decision post-reorganization. Could we please get clarification on this? Reno has been part of the California board in the past, due to the two states sharing Lake Tahoe, etc. Otherwise, do you want to move the past discussions and future ones to SW?

Sorry, this one is sort of confused since the board splits -- we shouldn't have posted a definitive statement. We'll discuss and get back to you.

Thanks. We live on the CA side of Lake Tahoe but the NV side is only about 8 miles away. A third of the lake is in NV and the other two thirds in CA. And Reno is only about 50 miles away. So many people who visit Reno also comes to Tahoe even for the day. I know it seems wacky to separate Reno from the rest of the state but.... Maybe under SW it could say something like "all of NV except the Reno area." Just a thought. Thanks.

I asked about this in this thread and Chowhound never answered:

My inclination at this point is to leave the immediate Tahoe area on California -- trying to separate Tahoe-CA from Tahoe-NV seems impractical, but the population (and thus presumably the restaurants, at least those not in Casinos) seem to be skewed to the California side (locals can correct me if I'm wrong about that).

Reno, though, seems like a pretty large, separate place, that should probably be on the Southwest board with the rest of Nevada. Without Phoenix and Vegas, Southwest is a pretty quiet place these days, so Reno might gain considerable traction on that board.

It's really hard to say about population and #s of restaurants. South LT has the largest number of casinos and, for that reason, a lot of restaurants. But the North Shore (where I live!) seems to have more fine and semi-fine and overall more interesting dining. I can't imagine Tahoe being other than the CA board since so many of our visitors are from CA and think of it as CA.

As for Reno, I see your point but.... Summer and winter (our "seasons" at LT), I'm guessing a huge % of Reno visitors are at least coming to Tahoe for the day. But there are other areas in the country where people have to post on two boards to get the info they're wanting. And if you leave Reno in CA, then you have to leave Carson City and a bunch of other nearby places there also. I see your rationale for Reno.

So can you put my thread about buying Duck in Reno back in the Southwest where I originally posted it? I feel that we will get better attention in that forum than CA. Too bad you didn't do an Intermountain West board for southern Idaho, Northern Nevada and Utah. We are hardly the southwest when we are pushing the 42nd parallel here in northern Nevada.
