  1. Are you taking the Turnpike? What kinds of things do you like, generally? How do you define "interesting?"

Definitely taking the turnpike as far as it will go. I don't like chain restaurants but am open to anything else.

Some interesting stops in Fort Pierce
Granny's Kitchen: Meat & 3 Soul Food- Hassie Russ and family has owned it for decades and still does the cooking. If you're squeamish about "the wrong side of the tracks," though, you might not feel comfortable. I'm in the neighborhood all the time, walking and have never had the slightest problem, however.)
Seoul Garden: Excellent Korean Food, also family-run.

Might hit that Korean place on the way back for lunch. I grew up in Miami so not too squeamish and know the best asian usually is on the wrong side of the tracks.

Actually, the korean is just in your run of the mill strip mall. Its the sould food joint that some people might find intimidating, though I recommend it highly .

If you don't want to get too far off the Turnpike, the best place to grab something quick is La Granja--a small chain, but way better than its surrounding fare of mega-chains.

We have La Granja here. It is awesome!

    2. to be honest it's a god awful drive (FSU?) - been there, done it etc. It's around 6 and a half to 7 hours of boring straight driving and I-10 is worse than the turnpike. Stick to quick stops and maybe a Cracker Barrel for the main meal. You won't want to go far off the intersections.

Yeah going up for my graduation. Got a masters online so I've never actually been there. I heard the drive was terrible. I know I'll be breaking at least twice so was curious for something interesting.

Cracker Barrel? Seriously? Well, if you're looking for quick and close to the Turnpike, go with La Granja. Its even closer than Cracker Barrel.

I'm fairly certain I'm be hitting Fort Pierce closer to breakfast time. Anything good for that meal?

            1. re: Jenaclaree

Mmm. Fort Pierce does not, in my opinion, have amazing breakfast. I like the cafe con leche at mervis, but that's quite a drive for coffee (its just off US 1.) I hate to say it, but you might be better off with ...Cracker Barrell!

lol might just see how far I can get before stopping. Although I have to say the Cracker Barrel breakfast is yummy.

        2. On our last trip up to Lake City Karen and I got off the turnpike in Orlando to try one of the restaurants in the Vietnamese neighborhood around Colonial Drive (SR-50) and Mills Avenue (17-92). It's a short drive, not very difficult to find, and if you like Vietnamese food it's a great place to visit.

Based on comments from this board (http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/533604) we tried Pho 88 (http://www.pho88orlando.com/) and had some very good Pho Bo. On our next trip we're planning on trying Lac Viet (http://lacvietbistro.com/).
