Chowworthy places to stop leaving the airport en route?

I am sharing my food info I get with a friend leaving next week. Three chicks, ages 35 to 45 going for three days. Will be landing at LGA and driving to Woodbury Commons to shop. They said they'll be starved and I've got nothing to help them with.

Where can they stop going through Manhattane, even turn off if they have to; it'll be 10ish when they leave. Open to pretty much anything, especially not greasy. Can be anywhere on the drive.

They might try the Neptune Diner in Astoria. It's been many years since I was there personally, but it tends to get good reviews in general.

Also, your friends would probably do best to avoid Manhattan. From the Triboro they can get directly onto 87 in the Bronx.

Good to know about skipping Manhattan.
Would they have to go in and eat at the Neptune Diner?

Yes, Neptune Diner is sit-down, though they could probably be in and out in < 45 minutes. I'm sure they do take-out but it's probably not suitable for eating in the car. Plusses are the location right on Astoria Blvd, which straddles the highway, and a small parking lot behind the restaurant. Those conveniences might be worth having to go in, since the alternative is a (potentially lengthy) detour off the highway.

I saw in your Manhattan post that someone suggested a trip into Jackson Heights. That neighborhood is overflowing with deliciousness, but I'm concerned that many of the quicker/easier options violate the "not greasy" criterion. If your friends like baked goods they could try Cannelle Patisserie. (I had croissants from there this morning so it's fresh in my mind.) There is a large parking lot, it's less than a mile from LGA, and it's very good.

Thanks. They definitely want something that is totally not out of their way; trying to get there and back as quick as possible. Will tel them to look at the Patisserie.
