Jim Thorpe, PA
We're planning two nights in Jim Thorpe and are wondering where to eat dinner - probably something casual and inexpensive one night, and maybe something a little more upscale the other. Any suggestions?
Moya is wonderful...on Race Street across from St. Mark's Episcopal Church. BYOB. Have heard great things about Flow as well, 268 Broadway. I used to have a vacation home in JT and have a great fondness for the area. These people are trying very hard to make it in a difficult economic environment. Please support them.
Moya is okay - they have been hit or miss recently, and since they are no longer BYOB, they get expensive very easily. Flow is fabulous, and they have a fresh, locally sourced food supply chain that keeps the menu constantly evolving. Plus the gallery next door always has something interesting in it. For the downscale but still decent, JT's at the bottom of Broadway is your pub food with a decent beer list and a cheap steak that isn't half bad. If you don't mind taking a short drive, Macaluso's in Nesquehoning is less than 10 minutes away, and they do terrific Italian. Finally, my favorite pub is actually Kelly's pub in Lansdale - it is about a15-20 minute drive from downtown Jim Thorpe, and the food is really really good. Barney, the owner is there and never misses an opportunity to make a new friend, so he's likely to stop over and introduce himself. Have a great time - we love Mauch Chunk and know it well.
