hearty korean food in berkeley

Hey all,

Just starting school at Berkeley, and my Korean mother is so sick of generic American food. She says she refuses to have another meal that isn't good solid korean food. So my lovely fellow chowhounds, where is the best place you've had hearty spicy korean stews? Jigaes, jjam bbong, korean stews that are flavorful and spicy and maybe seafoody. Help me help my mother!

I rememered one more, Seoul Gom Tang for tang. A friend who lives nearby says their seafood pancake is great.

Ohgane's my overall favorite. I've had great stews / soups there with pork mandu and dduk but I'm not sure which of the several similar dishes I liked best--dduk mandu gook? mandu jungol? mandu kal guksu?

Puyng Chang for soon dobu jigae.

Casserole House for jungol. Their seafood soup includes sea squirt for extra flavor.

      Chef Yu for zampong.

Jong Ga House makes a great cold kimchi soup at lunch.

      Good roundup:

Ohgane's also kind of huge, with the back room and front room - I've never waited for a table.

Sahn Maru's one real hit is the black goat stew, and a friendly atmosphere. Their seafood pancake I keep ordering but I think is a little greasy.

Sahn Maru's Jalapeno and Zucc pancake is great and not greasy at all. Unfortunately since they where featured on " Check Please" They have been so busy that service is ridiculous ( it was always rocky when busy). Ohgane get my overall vote, and Seoul Gom Tang for their soon tofu and Beef soups.
