I wonder if Sandwich_Sister has done so? Have you tried CCleaner? I find it really helps to run this and, best of all, it's free. Also at times after running CCleaner (or just clearing your browser cache the old fashioned way) it can help to shut down and restart.

The site is slow. period. It has been recently ... at least since the beginning of August when this was first reported.

I hope Sandwich_Sister and others give everything a try, but it is slow ... and getting lots and lots and lots of error messages. There are times when opening every other post results in an error message. This happens more in the evening hours ... but then again I read the site more in the evening.

That being said, it is not soul-sucking slow like it was sometimes in the past ... just slower than usual and it is not consistant. There are periods of time that are better than others.

Very weird. The site is loading within a couple of seconds for me, and I'm not getting any error messages to speak of. That's one of the reasons I asked about cleaning up your system to see if that helped. Maybe something to do with your ISP provider?

ADD: Just as a test I clicked on the "The US and the UK: Divided by a Common (Culinary) Language" thread, which is 489 posts or so ( http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/615004 ) and it completely loaded in 35 seconds. Threads of 40 or 50 posts are literally loading in 2 seconds.

Well, aren't you a lucky duck? The US & UK thread took more than a minute, maybe even two, to load for me. I am on a Mac and deleted all my past history (I use firefox), and emptied my cache. I have shut down the browser, shut down the computer, rebooted, restarted, and it is still very slow. The only website I find slower is the Food Network. I know it isn't my ISP provider. And I also keep getting the Chow application error. Ever since they made some changes - can't remember which ones they were there have been so many - I have had trouble. It gets frustrating.

Hmmm ... judging by the people not having problems, perhaps you folks have some different permissions.

Yeah, not ISP related as this is the only site where this happens. Like danhole mentioned, it is loading time. This doesn't bother me too much because the way I use this site is to open a window and come back to it. It is not like when there was a 10 minute lag.

One thing that changed for the positive is that there is no longer a lag when editing a reply. Before you could reply and edit once. Then the choice was to either wait for a while to edit again or cut and paste to work around the lag.

Again, I'm not too hot and bothered about it as I figure things will change when the new places changes go through. Still, the problem has been there for a few weeks now.

I was suspecting browser originally since Chow testing seems alergic to IE. However, other browsers are having problems.
