40th Bday dinner after theatre

Curtain comes down at 4:30 at the Pantages. We are 5 girls looking for an early dinner suggestion. We can travel to the West side or head East. Want good food, nice ambience, and a bar. Don't want a large bill (defined as more than $50 a head all in).

Where should we go? We are open to all cuisines!!!

Thanks,
YIMT

  1. In the immediate area you might consider Hungry Cat, Cafe Was, the Bowery (a bit small though), Magnolia (food's just so so these days), Citizen Smith, and definitely Loteria Grill.

Heading east, I like Little Dom's on Hillhurst a lot. And some folks like Malo on Sunset. Atmosphere's better than food though, I'd say.

Of course if you head west there are endless good options. Village Idiot on Melrose might work at that hour. As would Terroni on Beverly. And Baby Blues BBQ if you were so inclined. Probably too early for Bar Mamront, but maybe if you stall a little.

Alright, that should get you started. Anyone else?

the one time i went to hungry cat, it ended up costing us more than '$50 a head all in.' if each person were to order only one drink, the budget will likely be exceeded

i am not a big believer that groups of 5 people do well at 'careful ordering.'

    2. Also Boho. And I agree with the Little Dom's recommendation if you head east. Also in that direction, Vermont or the patio at Cliff's Edge would be very nice. It's a great setting.

      1. The last time I went to Pantages we went to Pizzeria Mozza before so that might be an option. At that time you should be able to get a reservation. Or maybe Melrose Bar & Grill.

I strongly second the Pizzeria Mozza suggestion and you should be able to easily escape for less than $50/head particularly if you share pizzas.

Pizzeria Mozza is great, but not sure how easy it's going to be to get a reservation for 5 at 5:30, depending on how soon your date is. And unless I'm mistaken, the Pizzeria side only serves beer & wine, not a full bar.

        2. Muso & Frank Grill is a classic. 6667 Hollyood Blvd. Just west of the Pantages.

i've never gotten out of musso and frank for "$50 all in"

          2. You could buy 5 (the maximum) $50 gift certificates for $25 each and go to Bashan in Glendale and stay inside your budget:
