ISO: Reliable Ice-Cream Maker for TV Show
How many times have I seen the ice-cream maker fail on cooking shows? From TNFNS to Top Chef Masters and Iron Chef, the frequency with which the contestant exclaims "my sorbet didnt freeze" suggests a great opportunity for consumer products firms to market a line of 100% guaranteed machines.
In the case of Iron Chef, the risk isnt whether the panel will like the anchovy ice-cream...it's whether they'll taste it at all.
A 100% guarantee would be nice, but I don't think any company would be crazy enough to put one on any mechanical device. Especially one that relies on a compressor. I wonder how many of the failures are due to actual mechanical failures and how many are due to "user error" (i.e not letting the base cool down before trying to freeze or having too much sugar/alcohol in the mix for it to freeze)?

If you want a 100% guaranteed method of making ice cream use liquid nitrogen or dry ice

Or lots of rock salt, ice and plenty of sweat from churning the handle on one of the old fashioned ice cream makers

It'll take a lot of salt, ice and sweat if your mixture's warm
