The Alhambra Farmer's Market has (or had) fresh lychee. Boxes of them, in fact.

99 Ranch Market in Gardena had the bright red ones for $1.99 a pound. Freshia Market in Torrance also had them.

I got mine at that 99 Ranch and they were great. As a side note- we like them served out on the patio on a bowl of water and ice- the red ones leach out the most amazing color from their skins- magenta water that I was tempted to drink.

They have some pretty nice ones at Marina Farms right now too.

the ones at marina farms were not as intensely flavorful as the ones i just bought at samosa house. marina farms is my default source.

Hi, westsidegal! I love fresh lychees (the canned ones are too sweet!), so this is good to know! I really enjoy our visits to Samosa House. The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful and their food is delicious!

Last week we found the largest lychees I have ever seen -- and yes, they were very juicy, fresh and sweet -- at Super King Market (2716 North San Fernando Road in Los Angeles). I would guess that they still offer them. It might be worth a call if this location is more convenient to the reader than Culver City (#323.225-0044). They sold for $1.99/lb.
