If you like Asian food I would suggest the you seek out some of the Vietnamese or Chinese restaurants that specialize in Crab. Many times you will get a much better deal than you will get a the tourist heavy places like Alioto's and some delicious exotic ( assuming that you do not have these cuisines at home) food ! am sure others can chime in with specific restaurants it has been a while since I have been out for crab.

Crab legs, do you mean those large Alaskan King Crab legs that usually come frozen or those itty, bitty Dungeness Crab legs. The D Crabs are presently not local and the most meat is in the body.

Girlfriend here, I am looking for fresh crab, it doesn't have to be ginormous king crab, just something fresh. I have never had fresh crab before, so I was hoping to have my first experience in San Fran. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Crab are available but are from up the coast this time of year. Quite a few Chinese Restaurants have them alive in tanks and will prepare your choice any number of ways. i sure you will get suggestions for fresh crabs in other cuisines.

Yeah unfortunately it's not in season right now...but you can find places down on the wharf (Fisherman's Wharf) selling it. Try Alioto's...

Thanks for the responses....we'll try Alioto's on the Wharf and see how it goes. Any suggestions for sushi and dimsum.....nothing extravagant please. Our travel budget is nearing it's limit now I'm afraid.
