Cacao Mexicatessen ~ Eagle Rock

We read about Cacao Mexicatessen restaurant/deli coming to Eagle Rock sometime ago, and we were waiting for their grand opening. So there we went yesterday, Friday, July 31st, 2009.
A very cute store, lots of Mexican grocery basics, and lots of Mexican candy also available.
Their menu includes a big variety of items, I have to say that I did get lost with their menu.

We ended up ordering various items, including a cheese plate that I truly liked, and I will be coming back just for that, and because of it. Our cheese plate was presented to us by the chef, she explained to us what each of the cheeses were and their origin. I could tell that the chef was very proud of her cheese plate. An amazing Oaxaca imported cheese was included within the plate.

They are just starting their business, and clearly there are some issues that need work, but the flavors are there, so it is a good start.

Small restaurant, but plenty of seating indoor and outdoor.

I will try to go back in a few weeks, then I can give a better review.

  1. We just carried out from here; had the portobellos tacos (excellent flavor), flor de calabaza tacos (very tasty and moist), and the rellenos plate, which was really nice, especially the chile with portobello and cheese filling; good sauce. Rice and beans were good too. Thumbs up all around from me and my wife. They were also cool enough to give us the taco plate (which is usually available until 4 PM) which is two tacos plus the beans and rice. Good stuff. Looking forward to going back and buying some cotija and trying the coffee.

    1. they've been open for a few months now, and this place is awesome. healthy creative mexican food that's gourmet and vegetarian friendly. try the bacon mole taco, the chile rellenos, and the portabello spinach chipotle panini. if you're spicy threshold is high, try the don marcos taco. great coffee and hot chocolate too.
