It's not the best pizza in the world, but it's still quite good...Frantone's Pizza and Spaghetti Villa. Not sure if it fits into your non-ethnic classification...but that other place you mentioned is somehow French inspired. Pizza at Frantone's is good...I quite enjoy their antipasto salads, their pepperoni chips, and their zepoli (fresh fried mini doughnuts).
There's a Pieloon close to the Stonewood Mall...it's more of a mom and pop diner-like place. Surprisingly, their prime rib is really good for a diner! But not sure you would want to conduct business there.
The only other suggestion that would be good for a business meeting, but it's Japanese. Sambi is pretty good. Sushi's okay. Teppan grill is really good, as is their normal cooked food.
This is a challenge! The only other suggestions that would be much better are all located in Cerritos...which doesn't meet your criteria. Good luck!-----

Thank you attran99, belatedly. I appreciate the reply, and will definitely be using these ideas for my own meals in Downey in the future, having been to none of them previously. If you see this and feel like it, I'd be happy to have a few links to your much better Cerritos suggestions!

No worries...we all get busy...and this is a great source of information for others as well :) I love Off Street Cafe in Cerritos (close to the 91 and the 605). I've been going there for ages...family owned and operated. It's a great business meeting place, if you're there for lunch and the weather is good, I would suggest a table on the patio. If you're interested in breakfast...their breakfasts are wonderful...everything is homemade. I've never had a bad meal there...and miss it as we've moved away, but we do come back occasionally.

It's a chain, but Wood Ranch BBQ is surprisingly good...and a significantly better choice when compared to the other offerings at the Cerritos Town Center. I'm most fond of their tri tip, but my sister likes their steaks. The hubby loves their beans. I've always found it to be a pleasant dining experience.
In the Bellflower area is an old favorite of mine...Marino's...it's a family owned and operated Italian place that's been around for ages...and my personal choice, if I were to have a business meeting. Everything is made from scratch...and IIRC they serve a lovely minestrone and a great garden salad with your meal (I hope economic hard times have not changed this). I'm a big fan of the Chicken Marsala there and my hubby loves the chicken parm...I've never had a bad meal here, either.

This one could be a little too ethnic, but El Rocoto across the street from the Cerritos Mall is good. Not as fabulous as other Peruvian places in L.A., but they make a good saltado....protein sauteed in an assortment of veggies and french fries. The fries soak up the sauce...and are delish.

Hope this helps! Sorry the links function isn't working...had to paste the addresses in.
