Providence, RI Recommendations?

We'll be visiting Waterfire in Providence this weekend, staying at the Westin downtown, and are looking for some help to plan our time. We'd like to stay somewhat near the hotel and walk for the most part.

- Would like to take a picnic to view Waterfire on Saturday night. Will we be able to pick up all supplies at Venda Ravioli? Any other recommendations to pick up supplies? Is it ok to bring wine and beer? (Side question - any tips on the best place to set up our picnic and watch the festivities?)

- About how long is the wait at Nick's for a Sunday brunch? Is it worth the wait?

Thank you!

Waterfire is better for walking around, not for siting in one place. Things happen in various locations, and you have to go to them, they won't come to you.. There is plenty of street/festival type food available (sustenance, not cuisine), and at least one location where you can buy beer, I think at the foot of College St.. I don't often see people stationed with a picnic basket.

If you get to Nick's early on Sunday, there won't be a wait. That's what I do, so I don't know how long the wait is later. It's very good, but I don't know if I'd stand and wait for an hour. It'll be a longish walk from the Westin, but you'll need to work off some calories on the return.

One good place to pick up some picnic-ish stuff is Farmstead Lunch, 225A Westminster Street.
