Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Washington, Oregon and Alaska (exc. Seattle and Portland)

Portland tomorrow -- good spot for lunch, drinks, walking around?

Taking my BF to Portland tomorrow for a surprise birthday trip. Should arrive around 2pm. Would love to get a late lunch and drinks somewhere where we can people watch, enjoy the sunshine, maybe wander around.

We'll be having dinner at Toro Bravo later that night. We're staying at Hotel Lucia and something in walking distance would be nice, but not necessary.

Price doesn't matter but I'd prefer something casual with great fresh food (any type), so we can just roll into town and start the birthday fun.

Ideas appreciated!

    1. You're in a very central location where you can be anywhere in downtown with less than a 15 minute walk. Right there in your hotel is Typhoon (Thai) which I recommend, but don't know their hours. Or you could catch the streetcar on 10th to the Pearl District and have lunch outdoors at Fenouil, which has a lovely view of the adjacent park Jameson Square. They have a late afternoon happy hour menu. After that, walk up to Sahagun Chocolate for a sorbet of pineapple, Meyer Lemon or single-origin chocolate, or an iced chocolate drink. Also there are some yummy sodas and hand made truffles. http://sahagunchocolates.com/
      Have fun. Please report back!

        1. re: Leonardo

Leonardo, thank you for the post! We actually ended up heading to the NE area after arriving, because a friend has a business over there and we wanted to take a look. It was later than expected -- 3:30 pm -- so we had eaten a snack on the road. We had margaritas at Por Que No, then a great dinner at Toro Bravo, and drinks at Secret Society. The next morning we hit Fenouil for breakfast, which was delicious! Great pastries, omelette, and eggs benedict au bouef. Thanks again for your help!
