Barn Wedding in Berkshires?
Hi everyone...my fiance and I are looking to get married in August of 2010, and we really want to have our ceremony and reception outdoors in a farm/barn-type area where NY meets MA near the Berkshires. Everywhere we've looked so far has $5,000 site fees, which just isn't in our budget!! Anyone have thoughts of good venues/good caterers up there that won't break the bank? Anyone have experience with Savory Harvest Catering?
Thanks!

Gedney Farm is rather costly. The Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield is beautiful and much more reasonably priced.
Are you working with a wedding planner? I was married on a friend's farm in Berkshire County last year. When we were scouting for venues (we have a home in the area) it seemed that the planners sometimes had a "inside track" to a picturesque barn that was not available to the general public. Might be worth calling around to see what you can learn. And Marketplace Catering was simply wonderful...and we spoke to almost EVERYONE.....

We went to a wedding at Race Brook Lodge last year..... I must say I was VERY disappointed with the quality of the food. Half raw, cold poached salmon, seared tenderloin that was WAY over cooked. Maybe it was just that one function, but boy oh boy I'll never go back there........ except for drinks and Jazz.

A couple years ago my cousin, who lived in NY at the time, but whose parents were in the Berkshires, got married in August at Gedney Farm in New Marlborough, MA. I have no idea what the cost was, but it was a gorgeous place for a wedding. www.gedneyfarm.com. Not sure who catered, but the farm probably has a list of caterers that have been there.

Here's an idea: http://www.silvermaplefarm.com/index....
Beautiful place with a post and beam barn. They do weddings. I"m not familiar with the current owners but loved the place in the past. -

Across the Hill from Hancock is The Darrow School on the old MT Lebanon Shaker Village which they have turned the old Tannery in to a Chapel. It felt Like a barn when we had morning meetings there in the winter. They do rent it out, but I'm not sure of the Cost.

you may want to try bucksteep manor in Washington, mass...I know the place is for sale, but they have an old stone church on the property ( i was married there a long time ago) a large barn where they used to do live music events, and some hostel-style rooms in the main building.

Is it possible for you to go up and visit the area? My aunt did the same in Virginia and was able to conact someone who she noticed had an amazing historic house with a barn, and when she got in touch with him, she found that he has actually done weddings there before, but doesn't advertise! He had a "pay what you can" policy, which is so helpful for a budget.
Sorry that this isn't a specific recommendation, but might be very worthwhile to pinpoint what you are looking for.

re: emmaleeb
@emmaleeb: could you get private message me (cmelissm@gmail.com) the contact person for the barn your aunt used for her wedding venue? I am getting married in Virginia in June 2010 and am having a tough time locating a rustic barn where we could have a wedding reception. That barn sounds perfect!
