First timers looking for good experience near civic center

Hey all, I need some help. My wife and are headed to SF, she from Boston and I from Poland. She is expecting a good night out on our first night there. We are staying near the civic center and like casual places with quality food. This will not be a fancy dinner but a fun one with good drinks, great atmosphere and food. Any suggestions would be helpful. We will be staying in SF for three days and then heading down the coast.

Other nearby options, if you can't get a reservation at Zuni, which are fun, not fussy with great drinks (one does incredible cocktails & the other awesome wines) & food...

If you do go to Zuni, both Cav and the nearby Hotel Biron make a nice spots for a post-dinner drink - Cav fairly bustling and sometimes noisly, Biron cozy and romantic. (It's not a hotel, btw, just a candelit wine bar.)

Cav has great food and one of the best selections of wine by the glass in town.

Biron's one of the coziest wine bars in town, but the food is quite limited.

Yes, sorry I realize that my post wasn't totally clear - I was recommending Absinthe and Cav as dinner choices, then Biron and Cav for post-dinner drinks. Thanks for clarifying.
