Dinner in North Slope tomorrow night

We're having our second date night in the five months since our daughter was born. Thought we would meet at Bergen St. 2/3 and head down Fifth Avenue.

Alchemy? Moutarde? Flatbush Farm? Other suggestions? Not too fancy/ not to $$$

If you are into Sushi in a plain atmosphere, Taro Sushi is the best deal in NYC. Romantic, very good food (Portuguese/Italian) but more expensive than most: Convivium Osteria. French, but a bit querky, in a compact space: Canaille

My husband told me he heard on NPR that Rosewater (on Union St) had a new chef, formerly of Campanile in LA (Nancy Silverton's, no?). Interesting.

Franny's or Al di La are our go date places in the neighborhood.

I'm wild about the clam & chile pizza at Franny's. I also think Bogota has a fun vibe and good food.

I read that there's a new chef at Melt which is right near the Bergen St stop. Melt doesn't get mentioned on this board very often, but I've had very good meals there and the place is casual yet elegant enough for a date night. I'm not a fan of the other places you mentioned. I haven't been to Canille, the little French place on fifth, but I've heard good things.

avoid melt at all costs. went there once in june, nice dinner. went last saturday -- holy cow, what a change. place was 3/4 empty on saturday night, but still had problems with drink orders, food orders, totally discombobulated service/kitchen. at those prices, there are way too many great choices to have to deal with that.
