The best kitchen product ad ever- Slap Chop!

Saw this on the Discovery Channel last night and had to YouTube it, and share.

Never thought the catchiest tune this summer would be from an infomercial!

My thoughts exactly, Sam! And the 80s video inserted in the middle - there are some clothes that should never ever be resurrected!

      1. re: LindaWhit

Second that, Linda! What were *we* thinking!

        1. re: bayoucook

Hey - I never wore clothes like that! LOL

    2. "Hi It's Vince from Slap Chop"

      1. I saw this on MTV2 and I dvr'ed it. Hilarious!

        1. slap-PUNCH OUT, more like it! http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/...

now, you'll never see that freakazoid on TV ads without remembering his own little "slap-chop" episode.

          1. I got the Pampered Chef version of that about ten years ago and I continue to be amazed at how often I use it and how well it works.

            1. Is that Vince from the Sham-Wow! commercials? Maybe he will inherit Billy May's title of America's most ubiquitous hawker.

              Great video!

Billy Mays was not a sleazy character.

                1. re: alkapal

No, you're right he was not (RIP Billy). I don't know if this guy should get cast in more commercials, only that like Billy Mays he has a distinct personality that seems to make people pay attention.

I guess he does come off kind of sleazy, though....I can picture him using strange pick up lines involving culinary instruments and cleaning cloths...*shudder*.

                  1. re: pickledtink

this guy, vince whatever, is so sleazy, it is disgusting. billy mays had charisma, but he never went down to tacky levels.... take his salesmanship for what it is worth, but he wasn't sleazy like the "slap chop" creature.

                    1. re: alkapal

True. But the slap/chop guy is kinda like a train wreck - you catch yourself riveted and repelled at the same time.

                      1. re: meatn3

meatn3, LOL! -- esp.when you know his "back" story. yikes!

                        1. re: alkapal

Unfortunately, looks like Mr. Mays was no angel either. Just read an msnbc article reporting that cocaine was a contributing factor to his death. He always did seem very energetic.

                1. WOW!! And I thought I had too much time on MY hands.... adam

                  1. My ears have sealed themselves shut, and my eyes are begging me to gouge them out!

                    1. If only Ron Popeil had that tune when he was selling the Chop-O-Matic.

                      1. Vince > Billy Mays, yeah I said it!

But Matt Billy Mays was your homeboy! He got his start selling a car wash gadget on the boardwalk on the Jersey shore and was known as "Bucket Billy".

                          1. re: KTinNYC

Yeah... but Vince got into a physical altercation with a prostitute. That just screams Jersey!

                        2. Great video! That guy annoys the heck out of me, but he’s got the personality as a hawker.

That thing looks too small to be of any real use (or is that what got him into trouble in the first place?)

The guy who did this remix, Steve Porter, is incredibly nice and talented. For the sports fans out there, I'd search out "Press Hop." He took the famous Allen Iverson 'Practice' interview and turned it into a super cool hip-hop video.

                            1. Pretty funny -- but not funnier than the Slap Chop itself. The chopping chamber looks like it holds about 1/4 cup. He can't put anything larger than a small radish in it. So...in order to save all that time chopping vegetables, all you have to do is chop your onions, carrots, tomatoes, etc. into small pieces that fit in the Slap Chop, so that you can slap chop the small chopped up veggies into smaller chopped up veggies. Brilliant!

There have been versions of this around for a long time. I have one, and it's very good for specific things, like nuts, herbs, and shallots. The whole reason to use it is for an amount that's really too small to chop effectively in a food processor.

                              2. WARNING: Watch at your own risk. I watched this on Thursday and still can't get the stupid tune out of my head. Gah!! Where is Cal Worthington when you need him?

                                1. Saw it at Wal Mart today $19.88.
It looked pretty small, you'd have to chop anything up first before you could fit it inside.

                                  1. Okay - here is my humble request for a DJ Steve Porter remix of Julia Child and Jacques Pepin from one of their old TV series shows.

                                    1. Celebrity Deathmatch listening?
Have this guy duke it out with the Sham Wow guy . Bikini, linguini, splat-tini.

My favorite line from the commercial is when he's chopping walnuts "You're gonna love my nuts!"

                                          1. re: donovt

apparently -- from his arrest report -- not everyone loved his nuts.
hey cuccs, i now miss your observation about how the slap-chop is "too small to be of much use." ;-D.

                                            1. re: alkapal

it reappeared! awesome!!!! like magic, huh?

                                              1. re: alkapal

Like magic, yeah! I knew it would be a borderline comment to begin with :-)

you be a wild and crazy bear!

did you ever check out that bbq place in / near harrisonburg that we talked about on another thread? i never saw your "report" on the food, that i can recall.

                                                  1. re: alkapal

I think so, I'll go refresh my memory and report back there...

                                          2. re: sbp

Gotcha sbp. My bad. I did NOT recognize the guy at all.

                                        2. Bass-o-Matic, man. Saturday Night Live!
