Special Occasion Dinner (tonight) for Los Feliz/Silverlake/Downtown?

mahjede Jul 29, 2009 06:14 PM

I'm taking my girlfriend out for a birthday dinner tonight and we just moved to los feliz. i would like to take her to a great, new place in our new area. cost is not a factor and i'd like something of the classier variety. the location could be in los feliz/silverlake or downtown (where we'll be getting a cocktail - the varnish, amazing - at some point). the only constraints, aside from area, are her culinary interests which exclude asian cuisines or a seafood focus. thanks for your help hounds.

ps - we've already been to barbrix and while we did enjoy it, i'd like to go somewhere new.

In addition to Palate, how about Bashan?

Palate and Church and State are both good recs., but maybe consider Canale in Atwater too

I think it might have, although this town is so fickle, and the reviewer is so biased at times, I'm not sure why anyone even listens to her.

Enjoy it as a neighborhood gem, if you like it, and consider yourself lucky to have a decent place in your neighborhood.

I second Church & State, if you can get a res for tonight.

Or Palate, across the 5 in Glendale.

Have you been to Domenico? Nice for a special occasion, although you'll still have to drive to the Varnish. If you want to be closer to Downtown, then Church and State.

I second Rivera - that place is DELICIOUS, and the drinks are divine. Read S. Irene's review before you go ... mm.

if you want to stay downtown, there's Drago Centro, Rivera or Church & State. i'd also suggest Chaya Downtown, but it's pretty seafood-centric.

I was going to say church & state as well, though it is loud in there. depends if you're looking for a fun lively place or romantic setting.
