dallas: LA PALAPA VERACRUZANA in oak cliff

thanks so much to you 'hounds -- LA PALAPA VERACRUZANA was the star of my visit.

for an appetizer we had the emmoladas. a very nice cinnamony mole sauce. glad we held on to this dish as it was a great and tongue cooling foil to our main courses. just look at this picture...this is a dish that is impossible to resist!:

my spouse had the fish tacos for a main, which of course i shared and which were great. very interestingly they were served with what was by far the hottest spiciest habanero sauce i have ever been served in a restaurant (see the tiny plastic cup in the pic below). not that i minded, i loved it!

i had the generous sopa de mariscos. besides the wonderful variety of seafood, including tiny white shelled cockles which you rarely see, the broth was just outstanding. it came with house made corn tortillas, which i dipped and shredded into the soup. here's you pic:

sadly, as people have fretted, we were the only ones in there (this was late last sunday afternoon). i hope people make that trip to oak cliff to support this wonderful and friendly restaurant!

here's a pic of the place:

It was our pleasure to recommend La Palapa to you. I wish you had more time to check out some of the other recs (i.e. Little Sichuan). Thanks for the report and the pics!

I sure hope they get busier. That place is tremendous.

La Palapa Veracruzana is a favorite of ours, too! But, it never seems to be very busy. I hope they can stick it out. It would be a shame to lose this little gem of restaurant that serves the "real thing". No Tex-Mex there.
