Looking for a gourmet bakery in Raleigh to do a birthday cake for my mom's 60th. A quick search of this board suggested Gourmandises de France (then Plaisirs de France) but it appears they are now closed? We've enjoyed Hereghty's in the past and that's probably my default option unless you have better recommendations. Also considering one of the cupcake places perhaps or maybe a nice Fresh Market cake if Hereghty's whole cakes (I've only had their mini cakes or individual slices of cake) are really really expensive.

We're looking for a gourmet (creative flavors, quality ingredients) round or square cake for 8-10 in the Raleigh area. Moderate pricing.

Thanks!

If I need a truly well decorated cake, I use Edible Art Bakery on Hillsborough.

Hereghty's is also a good choice, as you already know. I'm not quite sure what you mean by moderate pricing, though. That will mean different things to different people.

I tasted wedding cakes at Edible Art - they were the best-tasting cakes we tried. (We ended up choosing a venue that came with a cake - otherwise Edible Art would have been my first choice).

I just ordered a cake for 25 people from the Cupcake Shoppe on Glenwood and it was awesome! We got the vanilla cake with cookie icing and the icing was delicious. It was about $60. Would definitely recommend

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will definitely need them, as it turns out Hereghty doesn't make cakes anymore! I called them today to get their menu/price list and they indicated they'd recently changed pastry chefs.

Will work my way down the list and report back. Thanks!

Just a quick follow up - I ended up ordering a 6" round from Cake Dreams by Sally. www.cakedreamsbysally.com -- we got the almond cake with raspberry mousse filling. Custom made, affordable, beautifully decorated, and most importantly tasty! I'd recommend them in the future.
