Pittsburgh pre baseball game dining
Will be staying near Univ of Pitt in late August and we are going to PNC Park for an evening ball game and would appreictae suggestions for places to eat prior to the game as well as choices for food to bring to the game. American fare is preferred, no fast food. Are there any really good hoagie places?
Oooh, one more option is to go across the river to Station Square. Most of the restaurants over there are general chain restaurants with general American food. I like the onion rings at the Red Star. Then you can take the boat across the river to the game. It's a unique way to get to the game.
They aren't really hoagies, but Uncle Sam's has some good sandwiches- cheesesteaks, etc. The fries are delicious. There is one in Oakland on Oakland Ave near the Pitt Campus, although I tend to frequent the one in Squirrel Hill on Forbes Ave. Near the stadium there are general bars, etc with bar food. There is an Atria's located at PNC park, I'm a fan of their food, it's general American fare. I really like the burgers. The restaurant is pretty small so if you're going to eat there I'd suggest getting there early because it's always PACKED on game days. Another option is to take the fancy route. If you're splurging, sometimes my hubby and I will eat at Ruth Chris in PPG place downtown. They will validate your parking so you can park for free and just walk across the bridge to the park. Yes, we'll eat at Ruth Chris and then balk at paying for parking near the staduim. In terms of what to bring in the stadium, I'm a purist and it's peanuts and sunflower seeds, which I pick up at the grocery store. Water is key, especially if you're attending a day game and will be sitting in the sun, bring water too.
