I am going to be traveling toward Charlseton on Friday and would like to find a great BBQ place somewhere south of Charlotte perhaps near Columbia. We are traveling down I-77. Any suggestions?

I'll second the JD Hite rec. When you get to the intersection of I-77 and I-26 you'll be no more than 10 minutes away. (Whatever you do, don't bother with Maurice's BBQ which is also in the neighborhood.) If you make it to Hite's do yourself a favor and order a pound or two of the "rib cut" and specify you _don't_ want any loin meat with it. Get a loaf of white bread to accompany and you'll be in hog heaven. The chicken is pretty good too.

John D. Hite and Son on Dreher Rd. in West Columbia is a good choice. Take out only. Be sure to order hash as well as barbecue.

      I second bbqdawg's rec for Sweatman's.

If you can wait until you're between Columbia and Charleston, stop at Sweatman's in Holy Hill.
