MSP: Pastrami Jacks Closed

I just got an email informing me that Pastrami Jacks has ceased operation. I always thought the location was bad, but I thought the food was pretty good. For a city that struggles to get a good deli here it's sad to see one close.

  1. Just looked at their website to make sure I updated the right places link here in Chowhound. I'm sure it's frustrating to have a failing business, but I was surprised by the bitter tone of their message...

Very very sad. I loved the place. To Bob s. I don't think it was a bitter note, I think it was a little "tongue in cheek" attempt at humor on a very sad day. If you read what Jack said, that comment was written to people who would never read it. If they read it, it would no longer be written to them. ;-)

That sucks. We just had a really disappointing meal at Mort's deli, and were talking about how we needed to go back to Pastrami Jack's as they were waaay better (and open in hours we could actually get there. I'm looking at you, Brother's!

      2. Waaah! This is a big bummer. I loved their pastrami and all-you-could-eat pickles.

Sadly, it's partly my fault that they closed, as I stopped going there this year. I used to work nearish to Pastrami Jack's, and would make the trek further west for the great pastrami and pickles. But I haven't been there since I was laid off. (Couldn't afford the gas to get out there.) I'm sure all the layoffs in the area caused a noticable slump at lunchtime.

        This is very sad.

        1. NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

          1. omg that sucks. i loved their coleslaw even though i usually hate sweet coleslaw & i would always take a container of it from the all you can eat bar when i left. i got out to that area of the burbs very rarely, i admit, but PJ's was a priority stop & i've visited in the past month or so.

i'm going back and forth between saying that the message on the webpage is just over the top bitter and unprofessional, and then going: "wow i can really relate to that sentiment right now." it's too bad for the folks who obviously worked very hard to bring a quality product to this area. i'm very sorry to see this news. the mcd's and the taco bells are still open, of course :(

What was the message? It currently says "To those of whom we served - thanks"

For the original message, see the Churn blurb on HeavyTable:

                P.S. Me, I thought it was funny... ... and on-target ...

Interesting message for them to post - oh well - I guess that means it's my fault.

I always meant to try the place, but I had Metro Dining coupon for them and it was so restrictive in its use (no takeout, only valid certain days and times) that I never actually went. I kept saying, why go now when I can go some other time when it is valid. I really wonder if a less restrictive coupon might have generated a greater number of loyal customers.

Typical denial of their own role in the matter. Though I can understand that it still feels raw.

Bummer. I thought their fries were horrid but I liked their pastrami. Best of luck to sense reuben it in.
