I enjoy Yesterday's Cafe in Washington Sq. http://www.yesterdaysandtheplace.com/frameset.htm
They do a scallop dish in a tomato beurre blanc that is excellent. Not sure if it is on the regular menu or a special, but it melts in your mouth.
Also enjoy Rhode Island Quahog Company

re: newportrieats
I'm surprised nobody mentioned the Mooring. They have great seafood and a waterfront location, also a raw bar. Anthony's is the place where i get all my seafood for home. Otherwise stick with the high end restaurants in town, their menus are varied from seafood to meat, but all good quality.
Another option is Fluke. it's only been around a year but seems pretty popular. I like it, just find it a bit pricey. http://www.flukewinebar.com/menu.html

ooh that might be tough considering you are from one of the best (sea)food towns in the US
low end - Flo's, Anthony's Seafood
middle - Zelda's
high - Spiced Pear @ Chanler Hotelnot a fan of but others like these Scales & Shells (over rated IMHO). Mooring & 22 Bowen

re: tfed
Be careful of Flo's I went for the first time and they ran out of clams as I ordered clamcakes figuring it was a safe bet I noticed their sanitation practices are very questionable. I looked over their sani report and I wont go again. the food was greasy if that makes fried food tasty then I stand corrected. For simple seafoos Scales does simple fish pretty good.
