Liberty Custard?-MSP

I'm a huge fan of frozen custard. Culver's works in a pinch since it is so close, but Adele's in Excelsior is my favorite, if not a bit of a drive. I drove past Liberty this weekend and wonder if it is worth stopping at next time I am in the area? I've heard mixed reviews...

Wife and I went this afternoon. She had the black cherry italian ice, which was great. Nice and smooth, with plenty of flavor.

I had the turtle sundae. I agree that the vanilla custard was lacking flavor. The toppings were great, and abundant. The custard was really an after-thought here, but I still enjoyed it.

The custard is fair at best, the chocolate better than the vanilla, which is tasteless. The fudge is really good and the people watching with all the kids make this a go to place. Called it a bit sick, but jfood really likes eating a sundae while looking at the people across the street on the ellipticals and treadmills.

jfood-we must be kindred spirits as eating custard while watching people work-out sounds pretty entertaining! I think maybe I will go this weekend for a sundae. Thanks for the tips all!

Oooh, I love Liberty Custard, though I am no custard expert. From what I understand, Liberty is praised more for their toppings than their custard. I love the turtle sundae - the chocolate, caramel and candied nuts are excellent.

I live in the area of south Minneapolis with numerous excellent ice cream places. But every so often I get a craving for a banana split or other softserve-type specialty from my childhood. That's when I head to Liberty - and it is just a sweet laid back place with outdoor seating, lots of kids, dogs, friendly patrons. Maybe there is better custard to be had, but I just love the overall experience at Liberty.

I would agree with this. The custard is good, but the toppings are what make Liberty special.

          Liberty is not good.

I'm one of those "mixed" reviews. The atmosphere is great, but the last custard I had there wasn't. I'd rather save those calories for something I enjoy more.
