New Orleans-style bread pudding

My favorite New Orleans bread puddings have always had a texture similar to trifle — "scoopable" rather than sliceable. So far, the bread puddings I've tried in NYC have been dense and doorstop-heavy. Has anyone had great bread pudding in New York? (I've never seen whiskey sauce outside the South, but that would certainly be a plus.) Many thanks.
