Downtown Richmond: Mi Pueblo Taqueria and Meat Market - outdoor carne asada grill, Mexican hot dogs y mucho mas ...

This is one of those markets I've passed by for years and have been meaning to stop. This morning there was a grill in front with chickens and steaks cooking and people milling around.

On Saturday and Sunday they have the carne asada and grilled chicken. The beef or half a chicken is $6 and comes with a small deli container of Spanish rice, another deli container of green salsa and a half a dozen warm tortillas. A whole chicken is $12

It is a good deal. The steak is a little chewy but tasty. The chicken was moist. Straight-up grilling. The rice isn't dry. The green sauce is very good and has quite a kick.

Place your order, they give you a ticket and pay at the meat counter in the back.

It turns out they have a little kitchen back there where today there were huge pots of pozole, menudo and birria on the stove. The business card, a really nice one at that, says they have different plates every day.

From the card ...

Tacos, burritos, quesadillas, tortas, hotdogs, hamburguesas, flautas & mucho mas ...

Carnes a escoger: Pollo, pastor asada, chorio y lengua

Tenemos la mejor carne marinada para asar: Pollo, codorniz, arrachera, diezmillo, fajitas, wings, gullotas y mucho mas ...

I asked about the hot dog and was told it was the Mexican kind wrapped in bacon. I'm liking the idea of a hamburger straight from the meat case.

The place is about a half a block away from Hacienda Grill, so for a change of pace, it is something to consider. It is really take out. There's a beat up table next to the kitchen in a pinch.

The rest looks like a pretty standard corner Mexican market. There wasn't a huge veggie selection, but given they are so close to FoodsCo, I would guess they wouldn't do a lot of business there.

VERY nice people. There was a good mix of Latino and African American customers and even the customers were very pleasant. It has a really friendly neighborhood vibe. Given the joint is in the Iron Triangle, nice to see. The guys at the meat counter speak great English and the guy at the grill personally brought the meal to my car when it was ready.
