Lunch in Newport, Rhode Island?

I'm going to be in Newport tomorrow for a wedding in the evening. Any lunch recommendations?

Anything from fine dining to a seafood shack is welcome, so long as its delicious....

Much thanks.

  1. The Mooring Restaurant is excellent. They make the best scallop chowder. Be sure to get a bag of doughnuts with it. The doughnuts are lobster, shrimp & crab fritters. We have been going there for many years and have never been disappointed.

for casual, the smokehose in front of the mooring is really good too.they have a great chowder too, although not tradtional.

    2. Rhode Island Quahog Company ( has GREAT fresh seafood and very reasonable/downright cheap prices.

I've never been there, but the menu looks great! I'm putting that on my list for my next trip to Newport...thanks!

      2. The Inn at Castle Hill in Newport. Elegant fine cuisine get there around late lunch then sit on the grass afterwards check out the beautiful view with a cocktail.

        1. Black Pearl is great. You can go casual and sit outside on their patio and utilize their limited menu which is small but includes their amazing, creamy white chowder, oysters etc. or go inside for a more upscale, but still casual experience and choose from their full menu-which includes anything from a basic (but still tasty) burger to lobster. You can even grab chowder by the quart at their Black Pearl annex which is located perpindicular to the restaurant and next to the patio.
