Patty's Diner - Skokie, IL - Soon to close...

I didn't see any threads about this place, but a brief mention in the burger thread made me think that it deserved some attention. Much like the nearby Burt's Place in Morton Grove, this is a tiny family-run place that isn't much to look at on the inside. I know it may be a familiar haunt for north suburbanites, but it's fairly new to me.

However, I was taken there by a coworker to pick up lunch one day, and I have to say that this place serves up the most unexpectedly enormous and delicious cheeseburger I have had in a long time. Imagine a Kuma's-sized burger prepared in true diner fashion, and that's about the best description I can give. Huge, charred outside, juicy inside, and absolutely delicious. Apparently they were recently written up in the Tribune as having one of the best burgers on the north side.

There seems to be a fairly devoted breakfast following (as evidenced here: http://www.lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic....), but I don't live in the area, so I can't vouch for it. It sure does look delicious though.

Anyways, the sad news is, it seems like this place is slated to close next month (or at least, that's what it says on Centerstage). I will have to get up there to enjoy a burger before they go.

  1. False alarm! Patty's Diner appears to have been reprieved -- at least temporarily and will remain open for the next several months. The issues relate to the building owners (Patty's Diner is a business tenant, not the landlord).

Enjoy yourself and pay a visit to the restaurant while you can!

Happy that Patty's Diner remains open, I stopped at the diner Sunday for a late-morning snack of a 1/3 lb. cheeseburger. Fresh meat. Char-broiled. Freshly-baked bun. And all the fixings. A wonderful sandwich.

    2. Because I have use of the car of a friend who is in rehab for a couple of weeks, I stopped at Patty's again - this past Sunday. The joint was jumpin'! All tables were full and most of the counter seats were taken - during the Noon-1 p.m. time-slot. It was good to see the turn-out, and Patty working so hard at the grill! What a machine that gal is. As I did last week, I opted for the 1/3 lb. cheeseburger, with all the trimmings. Perfectly cooked - medium - and what flavor that charburger offered. Patty's isn't a 'fast food' restaurant, and at times like mid-day Sunday customers have to be patient and wait their turn.

      1. Yes, Patty's Diner is definitely still open, and thank goodness! Just had the best sloppy joe sandwich I've ever had (it was today's special). Plan to go back for breakfast SOON.

I made my first visit to DMK Burger Bar on the way home from work last night. After having one of the burgers there I was convinced more than ever that Patty serves the best burger I've had in the Chicago-area. DMK isn't even close.

I was was at Patty's 2 weeks ago with my sister. We both had the burgers and they were terrific. We were the only ones in the place. I ordered mine medium rare and next time I think I will go medium-- the middle was definitely less well cooked than I wanted. But besides that--nice fat patty (the meat, not the owner !), char grilled, great bread, good fries. Yum. I also went for breakfast that week (long story) on Monday and found it closed. There are no hours posted so beware they are closed Mondays.
