I'm crazy about fresh figs and have been on the hunt for them since we arrived in Florence three weeks ago. On a day trip to Bologna there were figs galore, a variety of types from about 1,90/kg. Here in Florence, they are rather scarce; the ones I have seen are in past their prime and are running around 4,90 or more per kilo (Mercato Centrale); nothing at all at Sant'Ambrogio today.

What accounts for the difference in price and availability? And can anyone recommend a reliable local source?

(ps: when are the raspberries coming?)
